We know the experiences a child has between birth and school entry have a profound effect upon their ability to become a reader. It is the enormous task of parents to provide a rich language background so their child is prepared to become a reader and be successful in school and in life. Support for parents to effectively build a child’s foundation of literacy before they enter school is vital to the success of our school’s efforts to teach children to read through the Allegan County Literacy Initiative.
Allegan County’s Dolly Parton Imagination Library’s vision matches the vision of our schools’ Literacy Initiative—that every Allegan County child will be reading well and independently by the end of third grade. Imagination Library helps by providing high quality books to Allegan County families with children from birth to five years of age.
We are striving to generate funds to enroll 2,000 children in Imagination Library. We’re offering you an opportunity to enjoy a day of golf with friends and get books into the hands of children at the same time! Please sign up for a summer day of golfing fun with friends and colleagues, and provide books to help a child achieve success with reading.
We’re challenging every agency that works with children in the County to put together a team for this wonderful event.
