BnBFinder Inns Honor Military Members with Free Stays
OCTOBER 16, 2012 – NEW YORK – Sometimes all it takes is a simple idea to spark an outpouring of support. Just ask Kathleen Panek, the proprietor and innkeeper at Gillum House located in Shinnston,WV, who was the first to provide free rooms to military veterans back in 2008. Because of her efforts, hundreds of BnBFinder inns (www.BnBFinder.com) are now providing complimentary stays for active duty and retired members of the military in commemoration of Veterans Day in the U.S. and Remembrance Day in Canada.
After her initial success, Ms. Panek was able to get nine more inns to donate rooms the following year with assistance from the West Virginia Bed and Breakfast Association. In 2010, she reached out to B&Bs and their associations across the country encouraging them to join her cause. “It’s important to me because the military isn’t getting the ‘thank you’ they deserve,” says Ms. Panek. “And, not just the military person, but also their partner who has to deal with the issues at home.”
Mary White, CEO and founder of BnBFinder, agrees. “These gallant soldiers sacrifice time away from their loved ones championing our freedom around the world,” she says. “I commend the hundreds of B&Bs who are honoring these brave men and women and their families.”
Here are some of the BnBFinder inns offering complimentary stays to members of the military. Rooms are limited; check with the inns for availability and restrictions. Military ID required:
