Greater Fennville Chamber of Commerce Awards Business of the Year

It is no surprise that Fennville boasts so many businesses with deep community roots – it is what the city does well. Fennville is an intertwined community, with families and businesses and schools and organizations working together to make the town the amazing place it is.

The Chemical Bank in Fennville is no different. Through their involvement with the Allegan County United Way projects, the bank has had the opportunity to lead personal finance/money management seminars for students (taught in both English and Spanish), promotes free medical clinics for uninsured residents in Allegan County, and offers free income tax clinic for those who qualify.  Chemical Bank celebrates the community with involvement in holiday celebrations with parade float and sponsoring events. The employees work to not only involve themselves in the community, but also go above and beyond their requirements to make sure each customer is satisfied.  Well done Chemical Bank, thank you so much for all you do in the community!

Robert Hutchinson Citizen of the Year Awarded

Maria Flores, a Fennville native and FHS graduate, is one of the members of the Heart Team.  The loss of Wes hit a bit closer to Flores, as her son and Wesley were close friends.  “Maria was one of those people who treated our son like we wanted people to treat him; no special treatment. I loved that she cared that much about him.” Said Jocelyn Leonard.

Aside from her own family and life, Flores dedicates her time and efforts to help Wes’ family and other Heart Team members.  “Maria has devoted many, many hours to the Wes Leonard Heart Team.  She keeps everything on track, runs errands for Jocelyn, has had to learn so many things about running a non-profit, and is at Jocelyn’s side at every event,” said community member Erica Ramos.  The Fennville community and the Wes Leonard Heart Team are very fortunate to have such a willing and dedicated person as a part of their team.

Since the formation of the Wes Leonard Heart Team, the group has raised enough money to place AEDs in gyms around the area, and raise money to help with other types of heart screening.

The Greater Fennville Chamber of Commerce would like to thank all who made our Annual Member Banquet a success! Members spent an evening at Fenn Valley Winery listening to the Bastastini Duo while sipping Virtue Cider, New Holland beer, and Fenn Valley wine, and browsed art work provided by the artists of Blue Coast Artists and 89 Art Scene. The ‘Taste of Fennville’ was provided by the Fennville Station Dining Coach and Lounge, Hop ‘N, Salt of the Earth, Steven’s Hotel, the What Not Inn, and Crane’s Pie Pantry. Many thanks to businesses who provided food, artwork, beverages and door prizes, with a special thanks to Fenn Valley Winery for providing facilities, the volunteer servers, and to the Chamber Board for putting the whole evening together. What a wonderful evening!
