From the oversized (60-inch pizzas carried by crane to the table) and absurdly spicy (“Ninja” sushi rolls made with fresh habaneros, cayenne peppers and wasabi oil) to the ridiculously pricey (the $175 burger made with Kobe beef, black truffles and foie gras) and the blatantly bizarre (corn-on-the-cob flavored ice cream), Tom learns the secrets of these out-of-this-world eats from the chefs at all the locales. First up on this outrageous tour, Tom Pizzica heads Pizza Casbah in Fort Collins, Colo., for a pizza that takes three people to get it in the oven, and a challenge that takes teams of two an hour to finish. Then he heads to Philadelphia to visit Smokin’ Betty’s where they serve up a burger inspired by a Thanksgiving classic, the Turducken. Lastly, Tom visits Palazzolo’s in Fennville, Mich., where they make 600 types of gelato with ingredients from durian to sausage. Then, they go to Fennville's Salt of the Earth restaurant to taste the outrageous gelato.
