Fennville ‘Tuesdays in the Park’ Concert Series
Posted: Jun 17, 2011

The Ninth Annual Fennville “Tuesdays in the Park” free community concert series continues on June 28 with the Kalamazoo based Irish band An Dro. The concert will be held at Memorial/Paradise Park on north Maple ST, downtown Fennville. Music begins at 7PM. In case of inclement weather the concert will be held in the lower level of the Fennville District Library.

An Dro performs Celtic-based, globally infused, world-beat music. At an An Dro performance you’ll hear traditional Irish melodies, medieval French songs, Breton dance tunes, Scandinavian refrains with Appalachian influences, Latin rhythms and African drumming.  All this is injected with an improvisational flair.

An Dro is made up of members Michele Venegas (formerly of the Celtic Band Fonn Mor), James Spalink (formerly of the Celtic Band Puck Faire), Fred Willson (formerly with the Celtic Band Amadaun) and Carolyn Koebel (currently with the art ensemble, Blue Dalia)  Together they bring a diversity of influences and considerable skill and perform on a wild array of acoustic instruments that include, fiddle, guitar, mandolin, bouzouki, Celtic harp, hurdy-gurdy, and percussion instruments from around the world.

An Dro released their first recording project, The Turn, in May, 2009.  The CD includes dynamic arrangements of dance music from several traditions along with Celtic songs and an original instrumental work by James Spalink.
