Fennville Recycling
Enterprises presents
donation to the Fennville
Education Foundation
Fennville, Michigan, October 1, 2007  Ray Diffenderffer, Executive
Director of Fennville Recycling Enterprises today presented a check
for $1,000 to the schools in Fennville. The money will be distributed
proportionately to Fennville Public School and Discovery
Elementary. “This check is the first of a continuing source of money
to pay for activities that will enrich the learning environment for kids
in the Fennville school system” says Diffenderffer.

Diffenderffer started the recycling operation back in June of 2005.
He negotiated partnerships with local waste haulers to collect
recyclables from local businesses and residences in the greater
Fennville area. Initial revenue from the operation paid for two multi-
ton compactors and upgrades to the building formerly used as the
Fennville Schools bus barn and now on three year lease to
Fennville Recycling Enterprises. It also paid for two vehicles used
for pickup of recyclables. In August 2006, a board of directors was
formed and soon after, Fennville Recycling Enterprises became a
501(c) (3) not-for-profit operation.

Diffenderffer’s vision is for the recycling operation to provide an
ongoing source of funds to pay for school-related projects
originated by teachers. He believes this will encourage creative
learning activities not otherwise affordable by the schools. “I want to
work toward getting the kids involved in this” says Diffenderffer.
“Recycling offers the opportunity to integrate earth science into the
curriculum. We can teach the kids and the kids can teach their
parents. We have an obligation to be good stewards of the earth.”

Diffenderffer holds a Master of Education degree from Loyola
University in Chicago and was a certified teacher in the state of
Illinois. He started a recycling program similar to the one now
operating in Fennville back in Ashton Illinois about ten years ago. A
long advocate of recycling, he has been a speaker at Recycling
Conferences and a consultant to businesses.
