The Greater Fennville Chamber of Commerce held their
annual Winter Banquet at the Fenn Valley Winery
Saturday January 26, 2008 featuring a fine dinner served
by the journeyman café, Fenn Valley wines, and
entertainment by the Chicago comedy group, I-94 Improv.
The evening was highlighted by the presentation of the
Robert Hutchinson Citizen of the Year Award presented by
Chamber President Jim Lytle and State Senator Patty
Birkholz to former Mayor Claude Rummer. Mr. Rummer
was lauded for his years of service as Mayor of Fennville
and his continued involvement in the Downtown
Development Authority.
The Chamber Business of the Year Award was presented
to the Fennville Main St. Market, which has been active in
supporting Chamber events over the years. Business
owners Margee and Steve Overhiser accepted the award
thanking the community for their support.
Senator Birkholz presented the Lifetime Leadership Award
to long-time Fennville resident and community icon Sam
Moorehead. Mr. Moorehead was heralded for his years of
service as teacher, coach, athletic director and principal at
Fennville High School. Senator Birkholz punctuated the
ceremony with her personal recollections as one of Mr.
Moorehead’s students.
I-94 Improv wrapped up the event with a high energy
performance, weaving Fennville trivia into their skits with
the assistance of willing volunteers from the audience.
The Chamber would like to thank the entertainment
committee of Sandi Busscher (Septic Tank Systems),
Martha Wickett-Schrock (Darpel & Associates Builders),
Theresa Wiley (Heritage Log Homes), Colleen LaShell
(LaShell Photography), Mary Hill (Fennville District Library)
and Jim Lytle (Fennville News) for an outstanding job in
organizing the event.
