TRAVIS BARNES ADVANCED TO EAGLE SCOUT

Boy Scout troop 2 in Fennville
recently honored Travis Barnes
where he was officially sworn
in as an Eagle Scout. This
ceremony, called a Court of
Honor, formally recognizes
those scouts who have earned
advancement in rank, a merit
badge or some other achieve-
ment in their scouting careers.
Only rarely does the Court of Honor get to recognize a
scout who has earned the highest rank scouting has to
offer, that of Eagle Scout. Fewer than 5% of all scouts
complete the rigorous requirements necessary before
they can wear the eagle badge of rank.

The Eagle award is performance based and includes
citizenship training, character development and personal
fitness along with the skills required to earn a minimum of
21 merit badges.  Travis has been working toward this
goal since he became a Tiger Scout in Kindergarten. He
graduated from High School in March, a trimester ahead
of his classmates.

Travis plans to attend college and eventually work for the
government as an archivist. An archivist collects,
maintains and makes available to researchers information
of enduring value.  “If it weren’t for archivists no one would
know where they came from” says Travis.

Eagle scouts have distinguished themselves in business,
public service and life in general. Former Eagle Scouts
include Neil Armstrong, Bill Gates Sr. and Gerald R. Ford.
